WellStar Foundation Donates to Safe Kids in Cobb and Douglas Counties

The Cobb Health Futures Foundation (CHFF) and the Douglas Health Futures Foundation (DHFF) recently received donations from the WellStar Foundation in the amount of $15,000 and $50,000 respectively to Safe Kids Douglas County and Safe Kids Cobb County. Safe Kids has been dedicated to fighting accidental injury, the number one killer of Cobb and Douglas children, for more than 20 years. Led by Cobb & Douglas Public Health and WellStar Health System, Safe Kids Coalitions work with community organizations and businesses to:

  • Increase public awareness of accidental childhood injuries
  • Support public policy on child safety
  • Provide safety education and equipment to parents, caregivers, children and youth

Most injuries are preventable with the appropriate equipment and education. Each year in Cobb & Douglas County, Safe Kids provides:

  • More than 2,000 child safety seats, each correctly installed and adjusted to fit the child. Correct use of a safety or booster seat reduces the risk of death in a motor vehicle crash by 80%
  • More than 750 bicycle helmets to families in need. Correct use of a bicycle helmet reduces the risk of head injury by 85%
  • More than 15,000 individuals are reached through our events, such as child safety seat checks, bicycle safety rodeos, water safety programs and other community safety education

“We greatly appreciate the generosity of the WellStar Foundation,” said Jack Kennedy, MD, Executive Director of the two Foundations. “The list of needs is long and support from partners

like WellStar is critical to keeping our children safe and free from unintentional injuries.”
