Cobb EMC donates gift to Cobb Health Futures Foundation

The Cobb Health Futures Foundation, Inc. recently received a generous monetary gift from Cobb EMC to support public health services for women and children in need. Cobb Health Futures Foundation is a private foundation created to raise awareness and funds for local public health programs that serve particularly vulnerable populations. One example is the Safe Kids program, which provides safety education and equipment to residents in order to reduce childhood injury and death.

“Cobb EMC is excited to support the work of the Cobb Health Futures Foundation,” says Sam Kelly, Sr. Vice President of Public Relations Cobb EMC. “Many local public health programs focus on the health and safety needs of children. These programs align well with Cobb EMC’s Community Relations’ goals, which are significantly tied to improving opportunities for young people.”

Incorporated in 1994, the Cobb Health Futures Foundation, Inc. has supported public health in many ways throughout the years. The Foundation continues to administer a special fund begun in 1997 on behalf of Children’s Medical Services, which helps coordinate healthcare for children with severe chronic medical conditions. This fund was initially made possible by an individual donation of $100,000.

According to John D. Kennedy, M.D., Executive Director of the Foundation, the need for support is great. “We want people to know that their donation has a direct impact locally and that 100% of the donation goes to support public health services,” Kennedy says. “No gift is too small. A $250 gift could provide a dental cleaning, fluoride treatment, x-rays, and sealants for one child desperately in need of dental care. Or it could cover the cost of eight child vehicle safety seats or 25 bike helmets for local children in need. The list of needs is long, and support from partners like Cobb EMC is invaluable.”
